Government seeks WFP support for food security policy overhaul
The government has asked the World Food Programme for technical assistance in updating the National Food Security Policy framework. The planned cooperation also covers post-harvest management, grain storage, nutrition and digital solutions.
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has sought technical support from the United Nations World Food Programme to help fold nutrition, digital innovation and global best practices into the National Food Security Policy framework.
The request came during a meeting on Tuesday between Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and WFP Representative and Country Director Ms Anita Hirsch.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in post-harvest management and grain storage, while also expanding work on nutrition-sensitive agriculture, food fortification and digital tools aimed at building more resilient food systems.
The engagement signals a push to strengthen how food is handled and preserved after harvest, alongside broader efforts to align agricultural policy with nutrition and technology-focused interventions.
