France: <a oldest food market.
The Marche Couvert des Enfants Rouges market in the Marais district was completely destroyed overnight on October 11-12; nothing of the covered market remained; thankfully, there were no fatalities or injuries.
A fire has destroyed the oldest covered food market in the French capital, a popular Thailand ), Lyon (France), and Mexico City (Mexico).
Speaking to reporters at the scene early on October 12, Lieutenant Colonel Pierre de Bouvier said: “The market was completely destroyed overnight from October 11-12. Nothing remains of the covered market.” He added that its metal structure had “partially collapsed” inside.
Marais Mayor Ariel Weil: “The worst has been avoided. No one was killed or injured. No nearby buildings were affected.”
He praised the swift response of the firefighters in extinguishing the blaze. The cause of the devastating fire has not yet been determined.
Approximately 20 small business owners lost their livelihoods due to the fire, some of whom had been selling goods at this location for generations.
