Mumbai’s everyday meals could soon become more expensive, with Restaurant Association (AHAR) announced the proposed increase on Wednesday, citing rising operating expenses that are making it harder for eateries to maintain existing prices.

As the change could affect everyone from office-goers who eat out daily to students living away from home and professionals who regularly order food online. Even a modest increase in the cost of everyday meals could put additional pressure on household food budgets

Why Are Mumbai Restaurants Increasing Their Prices?

The proposed hike comes amid rising costs of cooking gas, groceries, transportation, labour and commercial rentals. Restaurants rely on a steady supply of ingredients such as vegetables, pulses, milk, dairy products and edible oils, making fluctuations in food prices particularly challenging to manage.

Rental expenses and wages add to the financial burden, especially in Mumbai, where commercial space can be expensive. Restaurants must also account for utilities, equipment, maintenance and the logistics involved in bringing supplies to their kitchens.
