We visited The Coconut Tree restaurant in Bristol and tried a variety of dishes. The presentation was nice and the overall atmosphere was good, but the food did not quite meet the expectations we had from a Sri Lankan restaurant.
The meats could definitely have been better. We felt they lacked the depth of flavour, spice and richness we were hoping for. Some dishes were pleasant, but overall the flavours did not stand out as much as expected.
The biggest disappointment was the parotta. Parotta is such a signature part of Sri Lankan/South Indian food, so we were expecting something fresh, flaky and authentic. Unfortunately, it tasted like ready-made frozen parotta, which was disappointing and took away from the overall experience.
There were some enjoyable elements, but for a restaurant known for Sri Lankan flavours, we expected more authenticity and stronger seasoning. The food was okay, but not memorable enough for us.
Went to The Coconut Tree last Saturday night around 8:20 and honestly really enjoyed the food. As a Sri Lankan, I always compare Sri Lankan food here with back home, and this place got the flavours right.
We had the Mix Cheese Kottu, a chicken dish, the black pork dish and cocktails. The cheese kottu was really good proper flavour, nicely spicy and very satisfying. The black pork was probably my favourite, full of flavour with a nice rich spicy taste. The chicken dish was also delicious and everything went really well with the cocktails.
The atmosphere was lively, service was friendly, and overall it was just a really nice experience. Definitely a place I’d come back to when craving proper Sri Lankan food in Bristol.
Myself and my friend had a wonderful experience in The Coconut Tree just now. Welcoming, professional and friendly staff, delicious food and plentiful portions. Vindiv went over and above to ensure we enjoyed our meal and knew our way around the menu. Lovely to find another dog friendly restaurant on Gloucester Road as well. Can’t wait to return. 5*!
10/10. TRUST ME!!!
We fell upon this place by chance. There reviews were good and we thought we would give it a go.
The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
As a family we love all sorts of different cuisines, we had never tried Sri Lankan. There was lots of choice on the menu, everything sounded good. We got a couple of AMAZING cocktails then ordered.
Absolutely everything we ordered was EXCELLENT. Every dish was a surprise and a new taste experience.
Great value. Great food. Great service. AMAZING.

What made our visit even more special was the outstanding hospitality from Chamilka and his team. They were friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Their excellent service added so much to the overall experience.
A big thank you to Chamilka and the entire team for giving us such a memorable dining experience. Keep up the fantastic work! We will definitely be back and highly recommend The Coconut Tree Bristol to anyone who wants to enjoy real Sri Lankan food and hospitality.
